I’ve been crying since Sunday. I didn’t let myself cry on Saturday when I found out that one of my former youth had been killed in this last weekends shootings. 8 dead. Just like that on the news. Like it’s normal… quickly skip over and go on to some 10 minute segment about a celebrity. Our children don’t seem to be people. 8 dead.

This is the second youth I’ve lost in one year. With each death I realize that this city is deaf to the epidemic we’re facing, and HAVE been facing for years. Walking out of the door, for my kids, is a game of Russian roulette. These beautiful young people, who leave me in awe of their resilience, run the risk of getting gunned down every weekend and I’m tired.
